How to Use a Dressmaker/Seamstress in Today’s Lifestyle Choices

From Clothing Alterations, Copying a Pattern/Garment and Resizing or Amending Wedding Dresses, These are a Few of the Things we do.

Intro:

I’m a London dressmaker and tailor with over 15 years of sewing experience and operating as a small business for nearly 5 years now. I have the experience and knowledge to be able to help you understand how to use a seamstress/dressmaker in your lifestyle choices that you make. Below are some benefits of using a dressmaker/seamstress:

Benefits:

  • We are a naturally sustainable choice: Instead of simply buying and throwing away worn items we can renew them or amend them for you – sometimes creating a whole new style from the old item! Its exciting and interesting, saving money in the long run, an alteration can start from as little as £15 in anyone area (you can also try and haggle with the small businesses if you bring in a few items in one go!)
  • If you have a body shape and size that doesn’t meet the mainstream high street measurements: then its best to get a seamstress/dressmaker who will work with you on a regular basis even able to make you a bespoke (made to measure) outfit especially for you tailored to fit!
  • Looking for something original and designed just for you with features you like on clothing: selecting your own fabric whether it be linen, cotton, velvet, or silks. This can be done sitting down with the dressmaker to design and make something unique that you have designed yourself again it would also fit to your specific measurements for an extra bonus.
  • If you want a wedding dress designed and made uniquely for you or if you need a wedding dress altered for that special day: The local seamstress/dressmaker is the place to go.

History:

Before the industrial revolution happened and suddenly chemicals were mass produced and used on the clothing industry that affected the environment, child labour was the thing and high demanding workloads imposed on workers in sweat shops, the local dressmaker and tailor and seamstress were used all the time; being skilled tradespeople who dressed royals and nobles going back in history and even to the day. However, a lot of young people only see the shiny bright branded clothe stores on the high streets and shopping malls that the local dressmaker and tailor have been pushed to the side lines by them a lot in exchange for fast and furious fashion, mass produced and cheaply made and sought after apparel, choosing fickle trends over classic/stylish wear and usually then thrown away when worn once or twice in public. Its now down to us and the eco friendly or sustainable agencies to educate people and show people more how to make responsible decisions around clothing buying and how their decisions are affecting the environment and people in the world around us. I hope this blog has been effective in showing you the benefits of these skilled people and what they can do for you and how they are to be respected and used.

Summary:

Using a skilled person such as a dressmaker and tailor can save trouble and money. They don’t just fix clothes they also make bespoke fitted garments especially for you. They can even branch out to wedding dress alterations and men’s suiting and there’s nothing more sophisticated or professional than a wardrobe of clothes which are stylish, flattering and fit well, especially made with choice fabrics and good pattern cutting behind it all. This blog is to help you see the benefits of the dressmaker and tailor and to think about using them more especially in the face of fast fashion and big brands which usually affect the environment and people in a negative way. I’d like to help you choose well and be sustainable and ethical in your clothing choices as well as simply remind you that were here and happy to help.
